Ivan E. Denton

Brigadier General Ivan E. Denton serves as the Director of Manpower and Personnel, (J-1), National Guard Bureau where he is responsible for the strategic direction and integration of all National Guard Bureau personnel and manpower programs and policies for the Chief, National Guard Bureau.  

A 28-year veteran, General Denton began his career with the Indiana  National Guard and simultaneously joined the ROTC program at Indiana University. Upon graduating, he received the George C. Marshall Leadership Award and was deployed to Korea and served in combat in Panama during Operation Just Cause. He subsequently rejoined the Indiana National Guard where he has held numerous staff and command assignments including combat commands at the battalion level in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom and at the brigade level in Operation New Dawn.

Prior to his current assignment, General Denton was the Commander of Camp Atterbury, Joint Maneuver Training Center. He has received numerous badges and awards during his career, including the Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf Clusters.
